NSWACE Evening Seminar Series
In May of this year the NSWACE committee hosted the Annual Scientific Meeting’s ‘Regional Lecture Series’ in which the ASM’s International Keynote speaker delivers a series of talks locally in one state or region. Following on from his success at the ASM, Utah-based Professor of Anaesthesiology, Talmage Egan, delivered the keynote lectures for these events, focussing on ‘intravenous anaesthesia’ a topic on which Professor Egan is an internationally recognised expert. The first lecture hosted by Westmead Hospital on May 11th and entitled ‘Pharmacodynamic drug interactions: hypnotics and opioids’, was attended by 39 anaesthetists and trainees. The second lecture was presented on Wednesday May 12th as part of the NSWACE committee’s first evening seminar series. The seminar commenced with a keynote talk by Professor Egan entitled ‘Advances in propofol formulation and delivery: a review of new propofol formulations, propofol delivery devices and new sedative-hypnotic agents’. Following this Professor Egan and Royal North Shore based anaesthetists Drs Paul Sinclair and Adam Rehak presented a series of interactive group learning sessions, each addressing different aspects of TIVA.

Theme: DEATH UNDER ANAESTHESIA 50 Years of the Special Committee Investigating Deaths Under Anaesthesia (SCIDUA)
In 2010 the NSW Special Committee Investigating Deaths Under Anaesthesia (SCIDUA), the longest serving committee of its kind in the world, celebrates its 50th year. For that half century SCIDUA has played a key role in improving anaesthesia safety and has also chronicled important trends in anaesthesia practice. This meeting, which will be jointly hosted by the NSW Clinical Excellence Commission and the NSW Anaesthetic Continuing Education Committee, will celebrate the work of SCIDUA and focus on areas that are central to its work, the latter including management of seriously unwell patients and of anaesthesia related deaths in the peri-operative period. New reporting procedures will be presented. The meeting will continue the popular format of talks and small group interactive concurrent sessions.
Thank you for the interest shown in our Continuing Education Seminar on 14th August 2010. Our workshops and small group session are now full and we have reluctantly closed registrations as we have reached the capacity of our venue. Please note we will NOT be able to accept registrations on the day.
